Hey, Tennis Pro! It is 2's Day!

Davis Cup in a nutshell. The final stage of the Davis Cup begins today in Malaga, Spain. Davis Cup, huh? Are they just another Finals? Is it part of the ATP tour? Let's do a quick explanation of the Davis Cup for the inexpert.

The Davis Cup is for tennis the same as the World Cup is for football. However, it's played every year. It's not part of the ATP tour since the players represent their country and don't qualify as individuals.

The tournament celebrates its 110th edition this year, having been played for the first time in 1900, with 135 different nations competing throughout history.

This cup has several qualifying stages and a last stage of Finals. This week the Finals will be played with Team Spain as favourites, boasting Pablo Carreño, Roberto Bautista, Albert Ramos, Pedro Martínez and Marcel Granollers in the Spanish roster.

The teams set singles and doubles matchups with their top players and through an elimination system the countries advance through the stages.

The Davis Cup Finals start today and promises a high level of tennis.

🇺🇸 USA is the All-Time Davis Cup Winner

As in many other tournaments, the United States leads in number of titles obtained. Unlike most events, though, Australia boasts a significant presence at the Davis Cup. With 28 trophies in favor of the Aussies, they rank second behind the dominant United States.

However, as relevant as the United States looks with its 32 titles, it was not before 2007 at the hands of Andy Roddick, when they managed to secure their most recent championship. From 15 years to here, little or nothing from the Americans in the Davis.

Meanwhile, Spain boasts 6 titles in the tournament's history, five of them with a direct contribution from Rafael Nadal. The Spanish GOAT appears in the 3rd place of the tournament's records bragging the third longest singles streak 29 games won in a row.
